Lipedema is a chronic condition involving abnormal, disproportionate, symmetrical accumulation of fat tissue, particularly in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes arms. It occurs almost exclusively in people assigned female at birth. Lipedema is accompanied by symptoms and features which help its identification. It is often misdiagnosed as obesity or other conditions due to lack of awareness.

Management of lipedema requires a number of interventions which when tailored to the individual, can effectively reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
